Franko B è un artista performativo italiano, nato a Milano nel 1960 con base a Londra. Franko B è internazionalmente conosciuto per il suo percorso artistico segnato da azioni spettacolari, legate alla sua presenza fisica affascinante, allo stesso tempo seducente e disarmante. Ricordiamo in particolare la magistrale azione I MISS YOU svoltasi alla Tate Modern nel 2003: una lunga sfilata silenziosa su una tela bianca continua in cui l’artista si lasciava lentamente svuotare le vene del proprio sangue. Blood and pain, sangue e dolore, possono essere considerati due leitmotiv della sua opera. I temi evocati nelle sue recenti Black Paintings, ossia il corpo, la vita e le sue vanità, la morte, l’erotismo e il dolore, rimangono centrali nel percorso dell’artista.  L'identificazione tra la sua vita, le sue esperienze, le esperienze corporali che hanno alterato e modificato i suoi equilibri psicofisici e la sua arte, è totale. Supporto e filo rosso dell’opera di Franko B, il corpo è onnipresente : oggetto del desiderio, malato o senza difese, steso e lascivo o ripiegato dalla sofferenza, violentato, umiliato o a sua volta minaccioso, denudato o coperto dallo scudo dell’uniforme militare. Nelle performance dell’artista, viene usato come mezzo espressivo assoluto, e si fa tela, supporto, linguaggio, schermo simbolo e significato del lato oscuro di una natura umana alterata.

 Franko B is an Italian performance artist, born in Milan in 1960 and based in London. Franko B is internationally recognized for his artistic path marked by spectacular actions connected with his striking physical presence, a presence that is at once seductive and disarming. An example is the widely-acclaimed I MISS YOU performance held at the Tate Modern in 2003: a long, silent walk along a white canvas while the artist’s blood dripped slowly from his wrists. Blood and pain can be considered the two leitmotifs of his work. Some themes evoked in his recent series titled Black Paintings – the body, life and its vanities, death, eroticism and pain – have long been at the heart of his path. The identification between his life, his experiences, the body experiences that have altered and modified his psychophysical balace and his art, is absolute. The body in particular, always a common thread in Franko B’s work, is omnipresent and occupies the center stage: the object of desire, sick or defenseless, supine and lewd or bent over double with suffering, violated, humiliated or at turns threatening, denuded or covered with the shield of a military uniform.
